Bright and Co. shared premises with Argand and Co. at 37 Bruton Street, London from about 1805. Bright seems to have taken over the Argand business by around 1825 (Temple Newsam House, 'Country House Lighting 1660-1890', Exhibition Catalogue, 1992, no.72). A gothic lamp similar to the current two branch lamp, with urn-capped pillar and fretted octagonal plinth, is in the collection at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire and bears the label 'Hancock & Rixon' of Great Marlborough Street (ibid).

Both lamps overall in good order and appearance, with the expected rubbing and oxidation to surfaces throughout. The single-arm lamp with filled holes from previous second arm. The two-arm lamp with old repaired breaks to both arms and replacements to scrolled ends of arms. Later replacements to knob and oil release lever. This is all very well-done and well-matched. Both lamps have been wired for US electricity, but please not Christie's does not test or guarantee the working order of lighting.
