Oblong and of oval section, the sides chased in three-colour gold with two oval medallions topped by a foliate fruiting garland, one depicting a landscape, the other a walking lioness, flanked by flowering urns on plinths, on a matted ground, the detachable cover with vari-colour, gold floral and laurel swags, with scrolling foliage above, the sides engraved with two initials I and A, marked on base, sleeve and cover: twown, standard, tax mark and assay master

The Cheroot (or Stogie) is a cigar cut at both ends. The etymology of the word comes from the Portuguese word charuto, itself derived from the Tamil curuttu, which translates as 'paper roll'. The word was adopted in French in the 18th century and then in English during the colonial period, when cheroots became very popular in England.

Le Cheroot (ou Stogie) est un cigare coupé aux deux extrémités. L’étymologie du mot vient du mot portugais charuto lui-même issu du tamoul curuttu qui se traduit pas ‘rouleau de papier’. Ce mot aurait ensuite était adopté en français au XVIIIe siècle puis en anglais a la période coloniale lorsque les cheroots sont devenus très populaires en Angleterre.
