De forme coussin, circulaire, en laque de style japonais décorée d'un treillage en nacre et or encadrant sur les côtés des réserves en forme de lotus centrée de scènes lacustres de pagodes dans des paysages, et sur le couvercle un chien sous un arbre, une pagode dans le fond, poinçons sur l'intérieur du bord: charge, lettre-date (v) et maître-orfèvre; sur la gorge du couvercle: décharge deux fois

Cushion shaped black 'Japanese style' lacquer box, all over inlaid with a diaperwork pattern of shimmering burgau and gold in the Japanese Somada technique, the cover centred with a circular reserve of scalloped outlines painted with a red and gold lacquer scene on a black lacquer ground depicting a dog in a stylised architectural landscape, the bulging sides with three reserves shaped as inverted hearts painted with gold lacquer landscapes on a black ground imitating Hiramakie 17th century export lacquer, ox-blood red lacquer inside, plain gold mount with everted wavy gold thumbpiece, marked inside the border: charge, date-letter (v) and maker; on the flange: décharge twice

This maker is listed in H. Nocq, Le Poinçon de Paris, Paris, 1926 where his mark is described as made up of the letters IML with a rose in between, however no further information is given in his dictionary.
