CIRCA 1770, THE ENAMEL SIGNED CHUDY FOR WENCESLAS CHUDY (C.1730-1790)
Triangular flat box, the cover and base set with three enamel plaques in brown camaïeu with playful putti in clouds at various pursuits including amorini with allegories of War and Peace inside, the outsides of cover and base divided by gold mounts chased with stylised fleur-de-lys, the plain gold sides framed by horizontal reeding, marked on flange with later French control marks; in associated Wartski case

Wenceslas Chudy (1730-1790) was a miniaturist on porcelain and enamel, born in Bohemia. A portrait of the Empress Marie-Thérèse of Austria signed Chudy made in 1760 is now in the Victoria et Albert Museum, London (No d’accession P.14-1923).

Wenceslas Chudy (1730-1790) était un miniaturiste sur porcelaine et sur émail originaire de Bohème. Le Victoria et Albert Museum conserve dans ses collections une plaque figurant l’impératrice Marie-Thérèse d’Autriche realisée par Chudy vers 1760 (No d’accession P.14-1923).
