Rectangular, the cover set with an oval micromosaic of a spaniel reclining on grass, on an engine-turned ground within a black enamelled friese of scrolling foliage, the base with engine-turned interlacing, the grille a diaperwork pattern with rosettes, marked inside cover, side and base: 2nd standard and maker; and on bezel: small warranty

The dog is a popular subject with micromosaicists probably at the request of customers, particularly English travellers visiting Italy on the Grand Tour. This version of the spaniel was used repeatitivly by all micromosaic artists; there is thus another version of this spaniel illustrated in J. Hanisee Gabriel, The Gilbert Collection Micromosaics, London, 2000, p. 75, No 23 by Antonio Aguatti, one of the most talented manufacturers of micromosaics, known for the finesse of his work and the richness of his palette.

Le chien est un sujet populaire auprès des fabricants de micromosaïques, probablement à la demande de la clientèle, notamment anglaise, qui visite l’Italie dans la tradition du Grand Tour. Aussi cette version de l’épagneul a-t-elle été copiée par tous les micromosaïstes. Il existe ainsi une autre version de cet épagneul illustrée dans J. Hanisee Gabriel, The Gilbert Collection Micromosaics, Londres, 2000, p. 75, No 23 réalisée par Antonio Aguatti, l’un des plus talentueux fabricants de micromosaïques, connu pour la finesse de son travail et la richesse de sa palette.
