Lot Essay

Donna Summer's double-LP Live and More, its first three sides recorded live in concert at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles on 17 June 1978, became Summer's first album to achieve Platinum status, being certified by the RIAA on 19 October after having been certified Gold on 14 September. It was also Summer's first release to top the Billboard 200 chart, reaching the #1 position the week of 11 November.
Summer's cover recording of 'MacArthur Park', of which a seventeen-minute medley mix interpolating the songs 'One of a Kind' and 'Heaven Knows' occupies Side 4 of Live and More, was released as a single on 24 September 1978 and was certified Gold by the RIAA on 26 October. Two weeks later, it became Summer's first single to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, gaining the peak slot on 11 November and holding it for a total of three weeks. For the single, Summer was honored at the 21st Grammy Awards in 1979 with a nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
