Prodigious across the performing and visual arts, Donna Summer began painting in watercolor and acrylics in her 20s. She was a self-trained artist and ambitious painter, showing for the first time in 1990 with a touring exhibition at Circle Galleries in Los Angeles and San Diego, California and Bal Harbour, Florida. Due to her celebrity status, Summer’s work made a splash from its first appearance on the market. An LA Times article on her star-studded exhibition opening quotes Summer saying, “The thing I like about painting, as opposed to singing, is that it lets me grow at my own pace... It lets me use my techniques and designs, and my own personal sense of taste.”
