Donna Summer's recording of 'Last Dance', released 2 July 1978, was certified Gold by the RIAA on 19 July of the same year. The song, which Summer performed as part of her only film acting credit, 1978's Thank God It's Friday, peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on August 12. For the record, Summer was honored with an American Music Award for Favorite Disco Single and her first Grammy Award, for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. 'Last Dance' further earned its songwriter, Paul Jabara, a Grammy for Best R&B Song, as well as both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award, each in the Best Song category. Summer performed the song live at the 1979 American Music Awards ceremony, which she co-hosted alongside Helen Reddy and Glen Campbell, and again at the 1979 Academy Awards.
