A Rent Roll concerning rural Ireland
Fragment of a rent roll concerning a rectory at Kilfinny, near Limerick, in Latin, manuscript on vellum [Ireland (Limerick?), 16th century].
A rare example of a document concerning rural Ireland.

c. 150 × 210mm. 21 lines in Court Hand, the text starting and ending abruptly: ‘presente ecclesie cathedralis beate Marie virginis Lim(ericens)is ex una parte Et prefatum Peirs Neale & Walterus Neale de Kilfenye in comitatu Limericensis yeomen ex altera parte cuius altera partem sigillo predicti Roberti […] de iure pertinent rectoris de Kilfeny predicti […] ecclesie parochialis de Kilfenye predicte durante termine predicto. Et predictus Robertus Brave pro se […]’; blank on the reverse except for 20th-century pencil notes (apparently recovered from use as a wrapper, with consequent cropping of text at top and bottom, creases and stains, but fully legible).

Provenance:
(1) With a faint 20th(?)-century oval ink-stamp inscribed ‘MS 35’.
(2) Colker MS 234; acquired in 1973 from Maggs.

Kilfinny is about 15 miles or 25km southwest of Limerick.
