Pierre Falké's illustrated edition of Chadourne’s novel, no. 14 of 45 printed on Madagasgar, with two original watercolors. Quarto (244 x 190mm). Hand-colored woodcuts throughout, 5 of which full page, extra-illustrated with 2 original ink and watercolor vignettes, a repeat of the full suite of woodcuts in black-and-white at the end of the book, and a pochoir on brown paper by Yan Bernard Dyl. Black and blue paneled gold-painted morocco by J. Van West, with original wrappers bound in, in custom decorated paper slipcase. Provenance: Paul Marteau (1885-1966; French cardmaker and historian; aquatint bookplate signed by artist Henri Chapront bound in).
