Lot Essay

O. Untracht notes that the bunched hollow balls (gajre) shown on some examples from this lot are "rigidly fixed to the main body by threading a wire through their attached integral loops." This motif is common in jewelry from Rajasthan and appears on bangles, bracelets, pendants, earrings, and belts (O. Untracht, Traditional Jewelry of India, 1997, pg. 254).
