Lot Essay

The Broad Axe depicts Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks with Lake Placid in the distance. Allen Blagden wrote to David Rockefeller regarding the present work, "I am so glad that The Broad Axe is now part of your collection because it has always been one of my best works, and a good memory of my youthful years in the Adirondacks." (unpublished letter, May 5, 2009)
