Recognized for his enigmatic hyper-realistic compositions inspired by Spanish Baroque masters such as Velázquez, Zurbarán, and Sánchez Cotán, Colombian artist David Manzur Londoño, has been lauded for his attention to subtle details and painterly finesse. Manzur spent his early childhood and adolescence far away from his homeland living in such places as Equatorial Guinea, the Canary Islands and in Seville during the Spanish Civil War and World War II, and only returned in 1947 when he settled in the capital city of Bogotá. He received his training at the School of Fine Arts in Bogotá and the Arts Students League and Pratt Institute, both in New York. He was awarded two consecutive Guggenheim Fellowships and another from the Organization of American States. A rigorous master, he is seldom fully satisfied with his work insisting he can always aspire to perfection.
