The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in generally good order, structurally stable and ready to place. As visible in the online images there are hairline shrinkage cracks along the lines of construction, including notable vertical cracks to the doors. There are chips and re-touching to the japanned surfaces, most notably to the doors and there is slightly more notable chipping and loss to the lower left hand end of the cabinet. The plain top surface of cabinet possibly repainted. There is an old patch to veneer to inside top left of right hand door when open, well matched, probably to compensate for tearing to the veneer as to opposite side because of shrinkage of timber substrate. Notable shrinkage to the internal structure meaning that the drawers are slightly loose fitting, this is consistent across all drawers. Rubbing to the gilt decoration and the surface of the gilding is dull and may have been deliberately toned at some time. The mounts secure. The cabinet and stand are associated. The stand has been altered in size at some point, seemingly enlarged, to fit this cabinet. The stand has been re-gessoed and re-gilt at some time but there is extensive rubbing to the gilding and chips and losses to the carving at the extremities. Section chiselled away from back of back right foot, presumably to allow to sit flat against a wall.
This attractive cabinet is in basically good overall condition. The stand looks well and the historic amendments to the rails are not readily obvious and the bold carving is quite impressive when seen in person. Generally sound and in relatively good decorative condition overall.
