TWO STONE AXES
CHINA, NEOLITHIC PERIOD, 4TH-3RD MILLENNIUM BC
The larger of pale mottled brown and buff color, with curved cutting edge, and the hafting hole 'pecked’ from both sides; the other probably from Southeast China, the stone of pale greyish-buff color, each slightly convex side exhibiting the layers in the stone as darker lines that follow the shape of the axe, the hafting hole drilled from both sides; both well polished
6 1/8 and 5 ½ in. (15.5 and 14 cm.) long
