Lot Essay

This image was captured at the height of Sir Elton John's career. Taken in 1975, the twenty-eight year-old artist stands one hand on his hip, looking out before a sold out stadium. Although we can't see his face, we know he is smiling, as stated by his friend Billie Jean King, "Elton was so happy that day,.” Sir Elton John wears one of his most famous costumes of his career, a sequined LA Dodgers uniform designed by the renown Bob Mackie, that included his name, and appropriately followed by the number one.
