Les scènes d'animaux qui ornent cette chope empruntent aux gravures sur bois de Cunrat Gesner (1516-1565) ainsi qu'aux gravures de Paul Flindt (1567-1631). Gesner publia son bestiaire Historia Animalium imprimé à Nuremberg dans les années 1550 dont Flindt se servira pour ses gravures d'animaux. Flindt était lui-même orfèvre, en plus d'être médailliste et graveur, ce qui explique la nature de ses modèles et son influence sur les orfèvres maniéristes. Il a laissé ainsi plus de 200 gravures publiées entre 1592 et 1618 comprenant des frises d'enroulements et de cuirs qui incorpore grotesques, fleurs et feuillage mais aussi des paysages qui constituaient une inestimable source d'inspiration pour les orfèvres allemands mais aussi européens.
