MOVEMENT: the rectangular plates joined by six latched ringed pillars, reinstated verge escapement, reinstated push/pull bar repeat, inside rack bell striking and repeating the quarters on a single bell, the backplate with flowerheads and tulips about a central cartouche ‘Henry Jones / in the Temple’, secured to case via turn catches to dial and bolts through bottom pillars

Henry Jones (b. circa 1632) was apprenticed to Benjamin Hill but passed over to Edward East. Master of the Clockmakers' Company 1691. His widow Hannah took over the workshop as his son, also Henry, was still an apprentice.

OVERALL:
CASE: Overall in good condition. Light surface dirt and dust, numerous shrinkage splits to the veneers evident. The gilt mounts tarnished in areas. The front door with loss of putty to interior of glass. Inscription to inside of rear door ‘Captn. Hoarley’. Lockplate to rear door a probable replacement.
DIAL: Both hands are probable later replacements, with mild tarnishing and some oxidisation evident to each. The minute hand a little misshapen. The chapter ring with cracking and small losses to the wax chapters. Mild surface scratches and light tarnishing overall. One scratch to centre matting, strike/no strike lever is a replacement, the dial plate has two plugged holes near the lower chapter ring dial foot, possibly from original. The rear of the dial artificially darkened. The dial posts all have filed cut outs with no apparent reason. The dial plate with surface dirt to the matting, some surface scratches evident. Two plugged holes evident to the lower edge.
MOVEMENT: The verge escapement has been reinstated and seen adjustments, with subsequent filled holes to the plates evident. The pull repeat work has been reinstated. The pallets are new. The bells and repeat bell stand are replacements. The case locates the repeat pull bar. The strike work functions but requires adjustments. The backcock with a small infill section and later pierced scroll. Various rebushing also evident. The push/pull repeat bar was lacking when previously sold at Sotheby’s, then reinstated before being sold as part of the Nolte Collection.
With later winding key; and one case key.
