The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is executed on canvas which has an old lining. The canvas is held under adequate tension. Examination in natural light reveals a network of craquelure across the surface of the painting, particularly visible in the lighter tones of the sky. Along the top edge some craquelure appears slightly raised and would benefit from monitoring. Minor thinning to the upper paint glazes is present, particularly visible in the darker tones. A reverse-L shaped damage through the centre left and upper centre is visible, with pinprick losses.
Examination under UV confirms the above and reveals several campaigns of strengthening to the aforementioned darker tones, and scattered retouching throughout. A partially-removed cloudy varnish precludes further analysis, but additional restoration is to be presumed.
