The dial centering a plinth surmounted by a kalyx, a ewer on a plinth to its left and figures of Venus and Cupid to its right, on a large malachite-veneered base with ormolu block feet, applied overall with sphinxes, leaves, anthemion, medallions, lyres and medallions

Lot Essay

A clock of the same model, but with a long caduceus in place of the ewer at left, a pitcher in the lady's hand, and lacking the large malachite plinth is preserved in the Rzhevsky Brothers Collection at the Marble Palace Museum, Saint Petersburg (inv. no. OPI/M-695).
