The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Wonderful design and scale. The multiple mirror plates with the typical losses to the silvering scattered throughout, their surfaces with the inevitable light scratches, commensurate with handling. Some of the border plates possibly original. A section lacking at the arched plate above the proper left half, much of the loss concealed by the giltwood flowers and is visible in the catalogue photos. The frame re-gilt by Bill Adair of Gold Leaf Studios of Washington D.C. The frame has the usual scattered chips and small losses to carving and gilt surfaces revealing gesso and bole in areas. There are inevitably small restorations to the frame, mainly to small or delicate components such as leaf-tips and pendant members, as well as the wings of the birds. The wing of one bird probably a later carved replacement, done sympathetically. Good overall presentation, structurally sound and ready to hang.
