As noted in the presentation engraving, the S.S. San Hilario was an oil tanker launched by Eagle Oil Transport Co., Ltd. on 22 November 1913 in a ceremony presided over by a Mrs. Carr, who was given the present lot for the occasion. The tanker, which could carry 15,000 tons of oil, was sunk in World War I by a German submarine on 17 April 1917.
