Finely painted with a loose bouquet within concentric bands of gilt pendant harebells and beading, the border molded and enriched in gilt with entwined dolphins alternate with leaves, the handles and finials as swans, gilt line rims, comprising:
A swan-handled footed oval compote
Two navette-shape sauce-tureens or cream bowls, covers and stands
Two shell-shape dishes
Two square dishes
Four paneled oval dishes
Eighteen dessert plates
1412 in. (36.8 cm.) wide, the compote overall

See Leonard Whiter, Spode, A History of the Family, Factory and Wares 1733 to 1833, London, 1970, figs. 201 and 277 for a 'dolphin-embossed' plate and a cream bowl and stand, the latter also with swan handles and finial, variantly decorated but of the same forms as the present service.
