Descriptif du lot

These fascinating plaques derive their design from the very roots of the technique of pietra dura, the Ancient Roman art of opus sectile. They are based on a panel depicting a tiger attacking a calf, dating from the 4th century AD and preserved at the Basilica of Junius Bassus on the Esquiline Hill.
