The canvas is unlined and is on its original stretcher which is providing good support.
There are prominent stretcher marks at all sides of the canvas. There is a pattern of craquelure throughout. There are several areas of bitumenisation and paint shrinkage, in particular to the dog and to the trees and foliage, and in the lower right corner.
There is a dirty and discoloured varnish and the picture would benefit from a clean.
Under UV light there is an area of retouching to the lower edge, to the left of centre. There are small scattered retouchings in the background and to some of the areas of bitumenisation in the black pigments of the dog's coat. There is a layer of dirty varnish which makes further reading difficult.
