On four scroll and ball feet, with foliate scroll and shell bracket handles, gadrooned waved borders and slightly domed cover with a pomegranate finial, later engraved with a coat-of-arms within a drapery cartouche, crest and baron’s coronet, marked under base and on cover rim

The arms are those of Jolliffe with Hylton in pretence for William Jolliffe M.P. (1745-1802) and his wife Eleanor, daughter and heiress of Sir Richard Hylton Bt., of Hayton Castle, Cumberland, whom he married in 1779. William was M.P. for Petersfield from 1768 until 1802. He also served as Lord.of Trade from 1772 to 1779 and Lord of the Admiralty for only a matter of months in 1783.William Jolliffe’s elder grandson, The Rt. Hon. Sir William George Hylton Jolliffe 1st Bt.(1800-1876) of Merstham, Surrey, was created 1st Baron Hylton in 1866, presumably at which time the coronets were engraved.
