A PAIR OF GEORGE III MAHOGANY AND NEEDLEWORK SIDE CHAIRS
Previously in the celebrated collection of Raine Countess Spencer. An icon of London society, Lady Spencer was widely praised for her taste, she expressed her love of antiques eloquently in 1972 when, as Countess of Dartmouth, she opened the Northern Antiques Fair: ‘Every antique shop is to me a potential Aladdin’s cave. I love gazing at paintings, admiring rare bronzes or the patina of walnut and satinwood. ’

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
These side chairs are in good condition overall. There are the inevitable marks, chips and scratches consistent with age and use. The carved decoration apparently original. The needlework upholstery is worn and faded with some repairs. There are some chips and losses to the carved decoration, particularly to the base of the legs to both chairs. The feet previously with domes of silence. Traces of historic apparently inactive woodworm to both. Structurally sound and ready to use.
