In the Charles II style, each baluster and on spreading foot, chased with cherubs and putti among scrolling foliage and flowers on matted ground, the detachable cover with foliage cast ball finial, engraved underneath with a crest, marked underneath and on cover bezel, further stamped 'Crichton Bros. 22 Old Bond Street W.'

Lot Essay

This pair of furnishing vases are copies of a pair of Charles II examples made by Thomas Jenkins, London, 1675 exhibited by the leading dealer and manufacturer Crichton Brothers in The Loan Exhibition of Old English Plate held in 1929 at Sir Philip Sassoon's house on Park Lane. Crichton made copies of these and of a pear-shaped pairs which were sold at Christie's, London, 30 May 2012, lot 402. The original vases, which together weighted 118 oz., were later sold by a Nobleman at Christie's, London on 26 November 1980, lot 117.
