In the Regency style, on three lion feet with Bacchic masks in between, the tapering stem with three Grecian figures emerging from a partly fluted sheaf, the foliate scrolling branches in two tiers and with fluted drip-pans, the central light interchangeable with an urn on lion feet with mask terminal, engraved on stem with inscription on one side and with cypher LL with viscount's coronet above on the other, fully marked

The inscription reads Henry Viscount Lascelles from George R. J. and Mary R. 28 February 1922, for Henry Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood (1992-1947) and King George V and Queen Mary of Great Britain and Ireland.

The gift of King George V and Queen Mary to their son-in-law Henry Lascelles, Viscount Lascelles, later 6th Earl of Harewood (1882-1947) on the occasion of his marriage to their daughter Princess Mary, The Princess Royal (1897-1965), then by descent.

Lot Essay

This candelabrum was a gift to Henry Lascelles, known by the courtesy title of Viscount Lascelles until 1929, and his wife Princess Mary, only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, on the occasion of their wedding at Westminster Abbey, on 28 February 1922.
