Lot Essay

By repute this plate was ordered by the town of Harderwijk when the old city hall was restyled in 1727. See M. van Aken-Fehmers, Delfts Aardewerk, vol. II, Zwolle, 2001, pp. 331-335 for a discussion of AR marked objects-- Adriaen van Rijsselbergh could possibly have led a small workshop. Also see D.F. Lunsingh Scheurleer, Delft, München, 1984, tafel XIII for a similar plate dated 1727 in the Zuiderzeemuseum, Enkhuizen.
