Cette tabatière est un cadeau de Ferdinand VII (1784-1833) à Auguste Antoine Joseph Prouveur de Pont de Grouard (1759-1843), baron de Grouard, pour sa participation au rétablissement de son rôle de roi d’Espagne en 1814.
En effet le Baron de Grouard, alors préfet de l’Indre depuis 1804 est un proche d’Antoine René Charles Mathurin Laforest (1756-1846) le comte de la Forest, ambassadeur de France en Espagne de 1809-1813. Le comte de Laforest confie donc en 1813 au baron de Grouard un paquet, qu'il doit délivrer incognito sous le nom de Del Bosche au prince Ferdinand. Ce paquet contient une lettre de l’Empereur Napoléon invoquant le rétablissement de la paix entre la France et l’Espagne et la reconnaissance du prince Ferdinand comme roi d’Espagne.
