Lot Essay

The male figure is from the ‘Orientali’ series which was inspired by the engraved illustrations in Recueil de Cent Estampes representants différentes Nations du Levant, published in 1714, and he appears to correspond to no. 88, illustrating an Armenian architect. The series comprised twenty-four figures, made in two different sizes. For a similar example of this figure, see Andreina d’Agliano and Luca Melagati, Le Porcellane Europee della Collezione de Tschudy, Florence, 2002, p. 24, Cat. 14.
