Lot Essay

This chandelier, with its finely carved details in gilt gesso, recalls the work of the court cabinet-makers James Moore and William Gumley, who specialized in gilt gesso work. A related chandelier, originally supplied to Holme Lacy, Herefordshire, is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
