Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall an attractive table. Scattered losses, chips, and flaking to painted surface decoration throughout. With earlier layers of gilding evident on current decorative scheme. With old repaired breaks to carving particularly to the extremities, commensurate with age and use. Some losses. Possibly formerly with additional swags and decoration. The apron re-supported. Repaired old glue break to back of proper right back leg. When examining the top of the table frame with the marble top taken off, there are cuts through the return mouldings towards the front, which is possibly partly due to how it has been pieced together around the front rounded corners. There are a few loose elements here that would benefit from being re-secured. There are cuts a few inches in from the back of the table, which suggest that the table has been reduced or increased in depth during its life, albeit slightly. The marble top is later and associated as stated in cataloguing.
