Details
Surmounted by a swan-necked pediment centered by a vase pedestal, the terminals of the pediment scrolls are inlaid with eight-point stars, the dentilled cornice and simulated fluted frieze executed in amaranth, with four cabinet doors divided by geometric glazing bars strung with boxwood and ebony chequer-banding, over a central serpentine drawer section with canted corners, the top drawer opening to reveal an escritoire with a green baize covered writing-slide, over three further graduated long drawers, flanked by cross-banded cupboard doors to each side, each with an adjustable shelf, altogether on a plinth base, the reverse applied with an old inventory label from Arthur S. Vernay, Inc.

This beautiful satinwood bookcase shares many similarities with a bookcase illustrated in Macquoid's The Age of Satinwood which is said to have belonged to Queen Charlotte, suggesting they must certainly from the same workshop (1904, pp. 198-199, fig. 181).
