Lot Essay

Interestingly, another reputed provenance for this suite has been suggested, positing a connection to the Russian Prince Alexander Borisovich Kurakin (1752-1818). Although no substantiation for this provenance has yet emerged, the Prince is well-known for his ambassadorship to France during the Empire period, during which he famously warned Tsar Alexander I of Napoleon's planned invasion.
