The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

With a clean, complete well-maintained appearance, structurally sound and ready to use. With scattered age and construction cracks. With general overall marks, nicks, surface scratches, tiny losses and repairs consistent with age and use. Also with scattered scuffs and tight cracks to the ebonized veneers; the ebonizing refreshed. The underside with evidence of minor previous woodworm, now inactive. The ormolu mounts with some minor surface scratches, casting inconsistencies, oxidation and rubbing, as to be expected; with some yellow and some rosy patina in areas; apparently regilt, with some evidence of earlier mercury gilding. The writing surface is later, as is typical, with the expected wear associated with use. Overall presenting well, ready to place.
