Nicolas-Quinibert Foliot maître in 1729.

Born into a family of Parisian maîtres menuisiers et sculpteurs, Nicolas-Quinibert Foliot (1706-1776) was an official supplier to the Garde-Meuble Royale. In his workshop on rue de Cléry, Foliot employed the best carvers of Paris, such as as Dupré, Babel and his nephew Toussaint Foliot, to carry out commissions for the châteaux of Versailles and Trianon, Fontainebleau, Compiègne and Saint-Hubert. His works included a canopy for Louis XV's throne at Versailles, complete furniture for the king's bedroom, a bed for the dauphine Marie-Antoinette, and seating sets for the Countess du Barry, the Countess de Provence and the Count d'Artois. Other illustrious clients of his included baron de Bernstorff, le duc de Lyunes and maréchal d’Estrées. While he is one of the great masters of Louis XV menuiserie, he is also one of the precursors and promoters of the Louis XVI style, with his late Louis XV works featuring curvaceous forms coupled with Neoclassical ornamentation. His legacy continued even after his death, through the intermediary of his widow, who remained a supplier to the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne until 1784.
