Lot Essay
Jean-Baptiste Oudry a réalisé deux albums de dessins sur papier bleu rehaussé de blanc pour illustrer les Fables de La Fontaine entre 1729 et 1734. Les dessins étant libres et éxécutés dans un style très pictural, il était difficile pour les graveurs de les transcrire. Charles-Nicolas Cochin (1715-1790) réalisa donc des dessins intermédiaires, d'un style plus précieux et plus linéaire, qui serviront aux graveurs. Le présent dessin est une copie d'après celui de Cochin conservé à l'École des Beaux-Arts (inv. E.B.A. 696; E. Brugerolles, Les dessins de la collection Armand-Valton. La donation d'un grand collectionneur du XIXe siècle à l'École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, 1984, n° 282, ill).

Glued to the mount along the upper margin on the verso, the paper is slightly undulated in this area. This verso remains visible. The very thin paper is slightly yellowed with minor foxing, especially visible on the lower part of the sheet. The colors remains strong. In a gilt wood frame.
