Lot Essay

This armchair relates quite closely to an example formerly in the Noel Terry Collection, one of the best collections of mid-18th century furniture assembled from 1918 to 1980. The present chair exhibits only slight variations to the Terry example, notably to the ends design of the armrest supports (see: P. Brown, The Noel Terry Collection of Furniture and Clocks, York, 1987, p. 60, pl. 60).
