The name Lady Amelius Beauclerk engraved on the movement of this clock refers to Grace Bernal-Osborne (c. 1846-1926). The daughter of Sir Ralph Bernal-Osborne and Catherine Isabella Osborne, she was the second wife of William Amelius Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk, 10th Duke of Saint Albans. The son of William Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk, 9th Duke of Saint Albans and Elizabeth Catherine Gubbins, Amelius was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University. He held the office of Captain of the Yeoman of the Guard between 1868 and 1874 and was appointed Privy Counsellor in 1869. He also held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire between 1880 and 1898. After their marriage on 3 January 1874 in Newtown Anner, County Tipperary, Ireland, Grace Bernal-Osborne was styled as Duchess of Saint Albans. The couple had five children, including Osbourne de Vere Beauclerk, 12th Duke of Saint Albans.
