Lot Essay

These candlestick forms were modelled as a pair, in succession in 1886 and 1887, by Paul Schley, who subsequently modelled a monumental clock case to accompany them. They were sometimes fitted with nine ormolu branches, issuing porcelain candle holders. See Franca Dietz, The Hassan Sabet Collection; The Golden Age of the KPM, Weichmalerei (Soft-Paste-Paint) on Berlin Porcelain, Petersberg, 2015, pp. 274-277 for further discussion and illustrations of these models.
