Lot Essay

1855 was the year Lady Charlotte Guest married her childrens’ tutor, Charles Schreiber. It is possibly he who is depicted sketching the weir, which is perhaps a recent improvement on the estate. Likewise, it may be Lady Charlotte who is looking on.
