Le tableau est sur sa toile d'origine et sur un châssis à clefs. La toile est légèrement distendue.

A l'oeil nu, on constate un ancien repeint ayant viré sur le visage du garçon ainsi que des retouches dans les fonds ayant viré également. On constate également quelques points de litharge dans la partie droite du tableau.
Le tableau préserve une jolie matière et de jolis empâtements dans les drapés, notamment les rouges. La peinture est encrassée.

A l'UV, on constate les retouches précédemment mentionnées ainsi que quelques retouches ponctuelles dans le coin inférieur gauche, le turban et le long du col de l'enfant.
Sous un vernis uniforme.

The canvas is unlined, is mounted on a keyed stretcher. The canvas is slightly slack.

In natural light there is some retouching that has discoloured with age visible in the boy’s face, along with similarly discoloured retouching in the background. A few small spots of lead oxide are also visible in the right part of the painting. The work retains an attractive texture and fine impasto, particularly in the red draperies. The surface carries some dirt.

Examination under UV light confirms the above observations and further reveals some retouching in the lower left corner, in the turban, and along the child’s collar. The varnish is even.
