La toile a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage. Elle est maintenue sous une tension correcte sur un châssis à clés et reste stable.

À la lumière naturelle, le tableau se présente bien, les détails du costume et la fluidité des coups de pinceau restent pleinement appréciables. Une perforation restaurée est visible sur le front du modèle, la peinture utilisée dans ce processus ayant viré avec le temps. Il y a un réseau de craquelures comblées sur la joue du modèle. Dans ce cas-ci également, la peinture utilisée lors de la restauration a viré avec le temps. Il y a des traces de retouches autour de l'œil droit du modèle. On constate une petite zone de restauration dans le ciel au-dessus de la tête du modèle. Il y a quelques retouches mineures éparpillées dans l'arrière-plan à droite du modèle et dans les tons bruns de son costume, notamment au niveau du ventre, à hauteur du coude.

L'examen sous lumière UV confirme les observations susmentionnées. Sur le visage du modèle, le comblement ayant viré semble être lié à une zone de restauration plus importante. La zone autour de l'œil gauche du modèle présente des retouches plus importantes qui s'étendent jusqu'aux cheveux. On constate une zone de retouches dans le coin supérieur droit. Il y a quelques retouches éparses sur la main gantée. Il y a d'autres retouches éparses sur le costume et dans l'arrière-plan. Il y a des traces d'au moins deux campagnes de restauration, y compris des retouches plus récentes qui ont été effectuées par-dessus le vernis. Un nettoyage partiel du vernis a été effectué sur le visage et la main gantée du modèle. Le vernis est sinon épais et cache probablement d'autres retouches. La matière reste stable.

In natural light the painting presents well, the details of the costume and the fluidity of the brushstrokes remain fully appreciable.
There is a restored puncture visible to the sitter's forehead, the paint used in this process has discoloured with time. There is a network of infilled craquelure to the sitter's cheek, as above, the paint used in the process has discoloured over time. There is evidence of retouching around the model's proper right eye. There is a small area of restoration in the sky above the model's head. There is some minor scattered retouching to the background to the right of the model and in the browns of his costume, notably in the stomach at the level of his elbow.

Examination under UV light confirms the above observations. In the model's face the discoloured infill appears to be linked to a larger area of restoration. The area around the sitter's proper left eye shows wider retouching that extends into the hair. There is an area of retouching in the upper right corner. There is some scattered retouching to the gloved hand. There is further scattered retouching to the costume and in the background. There is evidence of at least two campaigns of restoration, included some more recent retouching which has been executed over the top of the varnish. The varnish has been partially cleaned over the sitter's face and gloved hand. The varnish is thick elsewhere and likely hides some further retouching. The paint remains stable.
