Each with red and white enamelled ribbon border, the pink ground decorated with three pale blue reserves painted with military and navigational trophies and floral bouquets, the foot with Arabic inscription; with three original Continental porcelain cups painted with blue and pink decoration and Turkish Royal crown, apparently unmarked, 18 carat

This set of three zarfs in delicate pastel colours is painted to the foot-rims with the name of their owner Ibrahim Pasha (1789-1848). The son of Muhammad Ali, founder of modern Egypt, Ottoman viceroy and ruler of Egypt from 1805 to 1848, Ibrahim Pasha also played a significant military and political role in the transformation of Egypt, although he governed only briefly in his father's place (after the latter became senile) from March 2 to November 10, 1848.
