This grand mirror is in 'country house' condition; there are the inevitable marks, cracks and wear consistent with age and use.
There are various layers of gilding visible, with some more recent retouching and refreshment including gold paint.
There is evidence of historic woodworm, inactive.
There are a number of cracks and repaired breaks to the mirror, for example to each side of the arch of the central plate and to areas of the acanthus framing the marginal plates.
Some elements to the broken areas of carving are later replacements.
As mentioned, the gilding is worn in places with some later gilding and areas of loss particularly to the extremities and to where there have been previous breaks in the carving.
There are several losses to the carving, for example to the shoulder of the right side marginal plate below the basket of flowers, to the flowering branch beneath the same basket, and in several other places, not immediately discernable to the eye.
The mirror plates appear original with some foxing and wear throughout.
Some white paint residue to the left side of the mirror.
Overall, this mirror presents well but might benefit from some minor sympathetic restoration.
