Jean-Jacques Pothier, maître in 1750.

The menuisier Jean-Jacques Pothier established workshops in the rue Mazarine in the 1750s before moving to rue de Bourbon-Villeneuve. A virtually identical fauteuil is illustrated L'Art et la Manière des Maitre Ébénistes François au XVIII siècle, ed. Guy le Prat, 1956, fig. A. A set of related fauteuils by Pothier, in the collection of the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry, is illustrated in T. Murdoch ed., Boughton House, London, 1992 (fig. 27).
