These two pairs of candlesticks are of typical form, the `fluted pillar' sticks with stepped feet became fashionable after 1765 with the rise of neo-classicism, the knopped sticks are of slightly earlier date. Examples of both are illustrated in Keith Pinn, Paktong The Chinese Alloy in Europe 1680 - 1820, Woodbridge, 1999, p. 99, pls. 58 and 59, and p. 92, pl. 51 respectively. A pair of mid-18th century paktong candlesticks sold Christie's, London, 10 November 2021, lot 92 (£1750 including premium).
