Lot Essay

Alessandro Varotari, called Padovanino (1588-1649) hailed from Padua but settled in Venice in 1614. Padovanino was a follower of Titian and worked in the late mannerist style. He executed the original work around 1636 and it currently resides at the Künsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
